The Day: School Expansion, New Signage and Free Trees
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
The Greene Hill School, a private elementary school located at 39 Adelphi Street, wants to open a middle school by next fall, Brownstoner reported. The school just began accepting applications, which must be filed with a non-refundable check for $50.00 by Jan. 3. With all the tension surrounding charter schools, we wondered what you think about the school’s growth, locals?
Here’s more news from around the nabe to start your day:
- A change in signage on Park Avenue will mean less parking spaces during the day, but it could lead to improved safety on the road, Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership showed us in this photo. The signs, installed by the New York City Department of Transportation at seven intersections on the road, notify drivers that parking spots at intersection corners must remain open to allow drivers and pedestrians a better view of oncoming traffic. This change was requested as part of the Park Avenue Pedestrian Safety Plan, according to MARP.
- Additionally, MARP let us know that today is Food Day, a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable and sustainable food. Locally you can help the cause by eating at Lulu & Po, Madiba Restaurant, iCi Restaurant and Dino, where 10 percent of proceeds during the day will go to the non-profit emergency food agency St. John’s Bread and Life.
- Did you miss the registration window to receive a free tree from the Pratt Area Community Council this coming weekend? Don’t worry, because If reserved trees are not picked up by noon, they will be available on a first come, first served basis. The event will be held Saturday between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Mt. Sainai Baptist Church parking lot, at 241-45 Gates Avenue. Tree breeds available include American plum, American Hazelnut, Pagoda Dogwood and Serviceberry.
