The Day: A Meditation Room at the Barclays Center and Tax Help at LIU
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
It’s going to be nice today, and we’re not just talking about the near 60-degree breeze headed in this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. With sunny skies prevailing, it should be the break we need before snow comes in for one more blast later this week. If you’re out enjoying the air, don’t forget to snap some photos and put them in The Nabe’s Flickr pool.
Here’s more news to start off your day:
- We’ve heard good things about The Runner, a new Myrtle Avenue restaurant, since it opened last week. The Brooklyn Paper visited the new spot, which features many dishes that residents could have eaten in the borough in the early 20th century. The fare focusses on delivering simple comfort food, including basic roasts and seafood appetizers. How would you rate the food, locals?
- A meditation room at the Barclays Center will be dedicated today at 3 p.m. after receiving a mini-makeover, according to the Atlantic Yards Report. The upgrade, which took 18 months to complete as part of the Atlantic Yards Community Benefits Agreement, encompasses new signage for the space, as well as more comfortable seating. It is still unclear what services and programs will take place there, according to the blog.
- Long Island University Brooklyn students are assisting local low-income residents prepare their tax returns through the campus’ Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. The students, trained and certified by the Internal Revenue Service, will provide the free, basic income tax-return preparation to those with a yearly income below $51,000. Sessions will run every Friday and Saturday, through April 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Pratt Building at 1 University Plaza.
