Here’s some more local news to start your day:
- After being convicted of killing a 4-year-old and serving 18 years in prison, Sundhe Moses was released this week when serious errors were found in the Kings County District Attorney’s case, the New York Daily News reported. The former inmate says that retired NYPD Detective Louis Scarcella beat him into confessing, according to the paper. Moses, whose family lives in the Ingersoll Houses, will celebrate his 38th birthday at home this coming weekend.
- Architect Karl Fisher, who currently has building designs under construction in Carroll Gardens and Prospect Park South, is bringing a new 6-story 28-unit building to Clinton Hill, according to Brownstoner. Demolition applications have been filed to tear down the three-story Fairhaven Funeral Chapel, which currently occupies the land where the new complex will reside at 1045 and 1047 Fulton Street.
- A year after a two-alarm fire damaged the Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew’s foyer, entrance and facade, the church has reopened thanks to $1.3 million in repairs, DNAinfo reported. The construction ended just hours before Sunday service last weekend, but not everything is finished, according to church officials. There is some fire damage that remains and the organ still needs to be repaired. You can help the church realize all the repairs by donating here.
