The Day: Get Out and Vote

Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Today is Election Day. If you’re not sure where to cast your vote, check out the Board of Elections website. Wherever you’re headed today, grab a coat and a scarf, as temperatures won’t top the low 50s, according to the National Weather Service.

  • New York City Council Member Letitia James will host a vigil for 9-year-old Lucian Merryweather, who died in a traffic accident on Saturday, tonight at 7 p.m. at the corner of Clermont and DeKalb avenues. James’ office invites community leaders, faith leaders and advocates for safer streets to come out and support the Merryweather family.
  • Greenlight Bookstore hosts the launch tonight for Jonathan Miles’ second novel “Want Not,” a story about three families in and around New York City close to Thanksgiving. His first novel, “Dear American Airlines,” garnered a spotlight by the New York Times Book Review. The only fault Publisher’s Weekly found with Miles’ sophomore work was “an excess of backstory and character detail.” The free event starts at 7:30 p.m. at 686 Fulton Street.
  • City elections got you feeling lovestruck? Tonight the Brooklyn Academy of Music is showing Jack Clayton’s 1974 “The Great Gatsby,” starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow. General admission tickets will cost you $13 at either showing time — 4:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. — but the price doesn’t guarantee you’ll yearn after that green light across the river with as much fervor as Gatsby. BAM Rose Cinemas are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue.
