The Day: Free Biking Classes, a Fort Greene Scarf and a Poll about Kids in Bars
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
We’re looking forward to near perfect weather for Memorial Day weekend. The days are expected to be mostly sunny, with a small chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Memorial Day itself is supposed to be warm with temperatures reaching into the low 80s. Whatever you plan on doing this weekend, don’t forget to take some pictures as you’re out in the neighborhood and share them on The Nabe’s Flickr group.
Here’s some local news to start your long weekend.
- If the warmer weather means you’re spending more time on your bike, freshen up your riding skills by signing up for a free bike class sponsored by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership, Bike New York, Citi Bike and the New York City Department of Transportation. Classes cover basic bicycling skills and urban street biking. If you’re in need of a helmet, don’t miss a free helmet giveaway on June 7.
- Show your neighborhood pride with a Fort Greene-themed scarf designed by Brooklyn Block. The pattern on the cotton voile scarf was inspired from a video recorded in Fort Greene.
- A ban on kids at local bar Hot Bird in Clinton Hill made news earlier this week, and the Wall Street Journal is holding a poll on whether kids should be let into bars. Let them know what you think, locals.
