The Day: Food Donations and a Holiday Dance Party for Seniors
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
Thanksgiving can be a time to stuff ourselves and, with a week until the holiday, many of us are stuffing our pantries. But you shouldn’t forget the locals who are looking at bare cupboards. You can donate part of your cornucopia of non-perishable items and canned goods to the Teen Challenge Center at 444 Clinton Avenue between 6 and 8 p.m. today.
To help other local food pantries get holiday donations, we’re preparing an article showing where your extra goods are needed. If you know a spot we shouldn’t forget, let us know in the comments or email us at TheNabe@TheNabe.me.
Here’s more local news to start your day:
- Fort Grace, a new American-style bakery and ice cream shop opens today. It will serve many malt-shop favorites made with small-batch ice creams, as well as a broader range of snacks and candies. Satiate your sweet tooth with a stop at 229 DeKalb Avenue.
- Want some more food? Then take a walk over to the Greene Grape’s new space at 767 Fulton Street for tastings all weekend long. Help them settle in and prove that the expansion was worth the investment by tasting everything from burgers and ice cream to butter and horseradish.
- Seniors who want to shake their tail feathers and make new friends will have their chance tomorrow at a holiday dance for local seniors organized by Council Member Letitia James. The fun happens between noon and 4 p.m. at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, 317 Clermont Avenue. RSVP to James’ office at (718) 260-9191 to take part in the music, refreshments and raffles.
