The Day: Construction Jobs and Local Furniture Design
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
A winter heat wave is upon us and we might even see temperatures into the high 40s today, according to the National Weather Service. But the really nice weather is expected to come this weekend, when sunny skies and a high near 50 may get some to ditch their heavy winter coats.
Here’s more news to get you going this morning:
- Looking for work in construction? Forest City Ratner is seeking experienced workers for its modular factory at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, according to the Atlantic Yards Report. It isn’t clear if the hires are to bring the facility up to full strength, replacing lost employees or ramping up production, the blog reported. If you’re interested, information sessions will be held Feb. 21, 25 and 27 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard Employment Center, on the third floor at 63 Flushing Avenue.
- Condos at 260 to 264 Greene Avenue in Clinton Hill got a flashy exterior update, Brownstoner reported. The copper flashing, used to trim around windows of the three buildings, gives these nine new homes a decidedly modern look. What do you think of the design, locals? Are you looking forward to the green patina to come?
- We got a look inside the life of local furniture designers Sina Sohrab and Joseph Guerra in this Sight Unseen post. The duo, who have built Studio Visibility out of a studio in Clinton Hill, search for elegant ways to improve everyday items, such as chairs and shelving. They are currently working on their first collection for the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, this May.
