The Day: Celebrate Columbus Day With a Run or by Rocking Out
Good morning, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.
Have you broken out the sweaters yet? Well you might not need them today, as this lovely Columbus Day will be partly sunny with a high of 67 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. How do you plan to spend your day off, locals? Let us know in the comments.
- When you’re planning your day, don’t forget about the Second annual Fort Greene Track and Field Day at Commodore Barry Park on Flushing Avenue and Navy Street. Bring your kids down to this free event to enjoy activities such as basketball and lacrosse led by the Long Island University Brooklyn Blackbirds, scrimmages with Young Rock Soccer, races with the Pratt Institute track and field team and a climbing wall brought by the NYPD. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m. and the fun begins at 12:30 p.m.
- Are you ready to throw up the horns and rock out? Nine Inch Nails is playing at the Barclays Center at 7:30 p.m. tonight as part of its “Tension: 2013” tour. Celebrating the release of “Hesitation Moves,” its first album since going on hiatus in 2009, Nine Inch Nails will be joined tonight by the post-rock band Godspeed! You Black Emperor. Tickets cost $54 to $99, and can still be bought online or at the box office at 620 Atlantic Avenue.
- Have you been ready for more New York City politics since last month’s primary elections? You can get together with your neighbors to watch the first debate between mayoral hopefuls Bill de Blasio and Joe Lhota tomorrow night at a free debate party at Mo’s Bar at 80 Lafayette Avenue. Stop by at 6:30 p.m. to get a drink and get settled before the debate starts at 7 p.m. Assemblyman Walter T. Mosley will also be there for the main event, but you may be able to convince him to stick around for Mo’s regular karaoke night after the debate at 8 p.m. To join in the political fun, RSVP to Jonathan Viguers at jonathan@billdeblasio.com.
