Dance Students At Boody JHS Take Home Bronze Medal In Ballet Competition

These middle school ballerinas are dancing their way to the top.

Eight graders from the Dance Magnet of I.S. 228 David A. Boody took home the bronze medal with the performance number called “Ladies’ Choice” at the Long Island Ballet Competition, in Islip, NY on May 2.

The competition was open to all ballet students ages 7 to 16, and structured in several categories including classical ballet, ballet solo, character dance, contemporary ballet, and Ensemble.

I.S. 228 —  the only public school present in the competition — showcased two dance numbers: “Romeo And Juliet”, choreographed by ballet teacher Irina Lapteva from Brighton Ballet Theater, and “Ladies’ Choice,” choreographed by dance teacher Jan Ford.

The award received in this competition is a recognition of the school’s efforts over the last three years to foster dance education in public school by collaborating with Brighton Ballet Theater and School of Russian Ballet.

The Dance Magnet will be performing their yearend show this week, titled “Dance Out”, May 13th and 14th at 7pm at the school located 228 Avenue S. Tickets are $7.00 for adults, $3.00 students accompanied by adult.

Congratulations to the David A. Boody dancers!
