Police are investigating a possible hate crime at Assemblyman Steven Cymbrowitz’ district office where some anti-Russian graffiti was found after Thanksgiving weekend, the news site JP Updates reports.

The vandalism was reported Monday afternoon when staffers discovered that a hammer and sickle along with the word “commie” had been scrawled in black marker on a window at the office, located at 1800 Sheepshead Bay Road, between Emmons Avenue and Shore Parkway, according to JP Updates.

Authorities told the news site they believe the Assemblyman may have been targeted because he represents a district with a large Russian-Jewish population.
