Curbside Christmas Trees May Still Be Recycled

According to the Department of Sanitation’s website, 311, and Community Board 14, the curbside recycling of Christmas trees ended on January 12 (despite previous notifications from DSNY that it would run through January 19).

But we’ve seen plenty of trees that have been on the curb since just after Christmas, still sitting there as of this morning. So are those going to be picked up with the regular trash?

Yesterday neighbor Rebekkah noticed that her tree was still waiting to be picked up, after she’d put it out on January 6. Just after asking us if the program was still going on, she told us that a truck came and got the ones on her block.

Additionally, this morning we saw regular DSNY trucks collecting trash, and they left the Christmas trees behind.

And, according to the DSNY on Twitter, they will continue to recycle the trees through this week:

Let us know if you see them in the area collecting the trees!
