CROWN HEIGHTS – One man is dead after a drive-by shooting aimed at a group of people in Crown Heights last night, police confirmed.

According to police, around 2:50 am on Tuesday, July 3, a white van drove by a group of people outside of 1655 Union Street when passengers opened fire. Nearby resident Argenis Cabrera, 33, was hit in the torso in the hail of bullets.

Police and EMS responded to the scene following a 911 call and found Cabrera unconscious and unresponsive, police said. He was transported to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

After the attack, police said the shooters tried to make their getaway in the white van, but plowed the vehicle into a parked car. The suspects then ditched the van, escaping on foot.

It was not immediately clear whether Cabrera was the target of the attack or not. So far, there have been no arrests and an investigation into the shooting is underway.
