CrossFit Outbreak To Open Next Month On Grand Avenue

Neighbor Adam Sturm and business partner Shimi Litkowski have been offering no-cost CrossFit classes in Fort Greene Park on recent Saturdays, but they’re not stopping there; the fitness enthusiasts are working towards opening a studio, CrossFit Outbreak, this October at 10 Grand Avenue (between Park and Flushing Avenues).

“[I] have been fortunate to see the area grow and develop,” says Adam, who has lived in the Fort Greene/Clinton Hill vicinity for the past decade. “Unfortunately, while we’ve seen many welcome additions to the community, we haven’t seen any new gyms… We decided to open CrossFit Outbreak in Clinton Hill to fill this void.”

Adam says CrossFit Outbreak will offer coached, group strength, endurance, and mobility classes seven days a week. Classes will be taught by Certified CrossFit Trainers, including Shimi and coach/nutritionist Elke S. Nelson, PhD.

One of the discipline’s great draws is its inclusivity for athletes of varied experience, ability levels, and desired applications (for instance, Shimi is on a strict burpee regimen to combat his love of Dough and other donuts). CrossFit hinges on the practice of “scalability”–during each class, participants may practice their workout at a level comfortable given their individual abilities.

While they’re still getting the studio (see photos) in shape to open next month, you can get ahead of the game by checking out their forthcoming class schedule, or by taking a free CrossFit Outbreak class in front of the Prison Ship Martyrs’ Monument, Saturdays at 9:30 and 10:30am. CrossFit Outbreak is also offering other promotions for their launch, including a free trial period, deals for founding members, and other packages.
