Crime Report: Stolen Motorcycles and Thefts from Cars and Trucks
Salem Saeed, 48, and Regeh Hussein, 30, were arrested after a brawl inside a deli on Fulton Street near Clinton Avenue on Aug. 28 at 1:45 a.m. Saeed allegedly threw a box and a 40-ounce beer bottle at Hussein’s face, and Hussein allegedly punched Saeed on the head and face. Hussein was treated at the Brooklyn Hospital Center, and Saeed was treated at Woodhull Hospital, police said. It is unclear whether Saeed and Hussein were employees or customers at the store.
Both men were charged with assault in the third degree, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of weapon in the fourth degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Including the crime above, 26 felonies and 11 arrests were reported in the 88th Precinct last week, compared to 28 felonies and six arrests the week before. Three motorcycles were reported stolen in the nabe, and four locals reported their belongings stolen from cars or trucks. As in past weeks, cell phones were commonly stolen. After a few weeks with no reported assaults at the Tillary Street Women’s Shelter, a shelter resident was arrested in a fracas with another resident on Aug. 31.
Armed Robbery
A thief on a bike pointed a gun at a 27-year-old man and snatched his cell phone and $130 in cash on Waverly Avenue between Willoughby and DeKalb Avenues on Aug. 27 at about 10 a.m., according to police. The thief fled south on Waverly Avenue toward DeKalb Avenue, police said. Cops searched the area but could not find the phone or the thief. The phone does not have a tracking device, police said.
Street Muggings
-A mugger grabbed and choked a 40-year-old man, causing him to black out on Myrtle Avenue at Clinton Avenue as he walked home on Aug. 26 at 2:10 a.m., cops said. Before the man lost consciousness, he spotted a second mugger approaching him. When he came to, he realized that his black leather wallet, containing $50 in cash, a Bank of America debit card and a Maryland driver’s license, was stolen.
-On Aug. 28 at about 7:15 p.m., a woman allegedly struck a 20-year-old man in the face on Fulton Street at Ashland Place, cops said. When the man attempted to call 911, a second woman shoved him and snatched his phone, according to police. The man was able to take his cell phone back from the woman, police said. Both women fled and were arrested two blocks away, cops said.
Haisha Broomes, 32, and Henisha Toppin, 22, were charged with petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second and fifth degrees, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Street Assault
An attacker stabbed a 37-year-old man in the left wrist and punched him in the face as he walked on Fulton Street at Grand Avenue on Aug. 31 at about 4 a.m., cops said. The victim suffered bleeding and substantial pain, according to police.
Street Robberies
-On Aug. 24 at about midnight, a thief snatched a woman’s cell phone and handbag outside a North Oxford Street apartment building between Park and Flushing Avenues where she was visiting family, police said. The handbag contained $30 in cash and a passport, according to police.
-A 38-year-old woman told police that she was walking west on Lafayette Avenue at Adelphi Street on Aug. 27 at about 1 p.m. when a man approached her, snatched her iPhone and fled. The woman told police that she had not activated a tracking device on her phone.
Transit Robbery
John E. Coleman, 51, allegedly snatched a woman’s yellow metal necklace, which she told cops was worth $600, in the Nevins Street subway station on Aug. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
Coleman was arrested in the station and charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
EMS Worker Attack
A reportedly drunk 29-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly kicked and bit an Emergency Medical Services medic who tried to revive him with oxygen on Sept. 1 at about 2 a.m. The medic, 24, complained of pain in his arm and was treated at Long Island College Hospital, police said.
Rice was charged with assault in the third degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Women’s Shelter Assault
Dayami Hechavarria, 36, was arrested after she allegedly flung a lock at a fellow Tillary Street Women’s Shelter resident, missing her, then pounced on her and scratched her neck, right index finger and left eye on Aug. 31 at about midnight.
Hechavarria was charged with assault in the third degree, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Motorcycle and Bicycle Thefts
-A 20-year-old woman told police that she parked and chained her motorcycle in her front yard on Hall Street between Park and Myrtle Avenues at 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 28. When she returned at 4 a.m., the motorcycle was gone, but its stand and cover were left behind. Police searched the area but could not find the motorcycle.
-A thief stole a 41-year-old woman’s motorcycle from its parking spot on Park Avenue at Washington Avenue between 10 a.m. on Aug. 26 and 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 28, cops said.
-A 32-year-old woman told police that she chained her motorcycle to a bannister on Carlton Avenue between DeKalb and Lafayette Avenues on Sept. 1 at 1 a.m. When she returned at 9 a.m., the motorcycle and chain were gone, cops said.
-Between Aug. 30 at about 8 p.m. and Aug. 31 at 8 a.m., a thief stole a 36-year-old man’s Bianchi bicycle that was double-locked to a scaffold on Clifton Place between Classon and Grand Avenues, police said. The bike is worth approximately $1,400, the owner told police.
Thefts from Cars and Trucks
-A 48-year-old man told police that someone stole his cell phone from his car in a valet parking garage on the Flatbush Avenue Extension between 2:30 and 2:40 p.m. on Aug. 23. The car was not damaged, police said.
-An employee of Nalco Corporation, a water treatment and process company, told police that someone broke the passenger side front window of his car and took an HP laptop computer on Aug. 21 between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. The employee made the police report five days later, at his employer’s request, police said.
-A 44-year-old woman told police that she was unloading the trunk of her rental car on Willoughby Street near Ashland Place on Aug. 31 at 1:20 p.m. when someone snatched her overnight bag – containing clothes, a Steve Madden purse, a gold cross necklace and a watch – and fled. Surveillance video is available at the nearby University Towers, and Long Island University Brooklyn may also have video available, cops said.
-On Sept. 1 between 1:30 and 2:10 p.m., a thief stole a black Nike bag, a brown wallet, a driver’s license, a Social Security card and a Chase debit card from a 24-year-old man’s truck parked on Vanderbilt Avenue between Myrtle and Willoughby Avenues, cops said.
Home Burglary
A 57-year-old Washington Walk resident told police that he woke up on Aug. 24 at 9 a.m. to find that $1,300 was missing from his eyeglass case. The night before, a woman and her 7-year-old son visited the man’s apartment and watched him remove $100 from the case, he told police.
Apartment Break-In
A woman told police that she left her Fort Greene Place apartment on Aug. 28 at 8:30 a.m., and when she returned a day later at 9:15 a.m., the gate to her bedroom window was cut open, but nothing was stolen from the apartment.
Bank Robbery
Claudette Spaulding, 56, a teller at J.P. Morgan and Chase Bank on Flushing Avenue near Washington Avenue, was arrested after she allegedly removed two stacks of cash, totaling $10,000, from the bank between July 27 and August 2. Bank staff discovered the theft when they conducted a routine cash audit on Aug. 29, police said.
Spaulding was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, falsifying business records in the first degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree and falsifying business records in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
Fraudulent Account Usage
-A 39-year-old Washington Avenue resident told police that someone used his Visa debit card information to purchase $1,055 worth of merchandise from Target. He said he hadn’t used his card in a month, and doesn’t know how the fraudster got the card information.
-A 28-year-old North Portland Avenue resident told police that she was checking her credit report on Aug. 29 when she discovered that in December 2008, someone used her personal information to obtain credit cards and ran up charges of $904.
Apartment Fight
Two women were arrested after a fight at a Cumberland Walk apartment in the Walt Whitman Houses on Aug. 28 at about 10:30 a.m. Carmen Ortiz, 65, allegedly bit Ilona Figueroa, 41, on the hand, and Figueroa reportedly assaulted Ortiz. A police report did not provide the specifics of Figueroa’s alleged assault.
A spokeswoman for the Kings County District Attorney’s office said the charge information for both women was unavailable, but that both were issued desk appearance tickets, requiring that they appear in county court for arraignment.
Domestic Dispute
Carlos Figueroa, 62, was arrested after he allegedly pulled his girlfriend’s hair and pushed her to the ground in a Saint Felix Street apartment on Aug. 29 at about 2:50 a.m. His girlfriend, 76, received medical attention for bruising and swelling on her arms and the right side of her body, cops said.
