Crime Report: Robbery At Gunpoint, Stolen Marvel Comics T-Shirts & Check Fraud


A masked man robbed a 22-year-old man at gunpoint in the Ingersoll Houses on June 4 at 12:40 a.m. He told police that two men had followed him into his apartment building. Fearing for his safety, he left the building, still followed by the two men. The victim noticed the two men walked away in a different direction. As he was walking back to his building, one of the men, now wearing a mask covering the lower half of his face, came up to him. The thief showed him a silver revolver and said, “Give me everything you have,” and grabbed the man’s iPhone 5, $150 and a gold chain with a diamond pendant in the shape of Jesus’s face. Police searched but could not find the thief.

Including the above crime, 15 felonies and three arrests were reported in the 88th Precinct between May 31 and June 6. Locals reported stolen t-shirts, check frauds and domestic assaults.

Gunshot Wound

A gunman shot a 23-year-old man as he was leaving a barbecue near North Elliott Place and Park Avenue on May 31 at 11:30 p.m. The wounded man told police that he heard shots and felt pain in his right leg and, thinking he had only been grazed, hailed a cab. When he still felt pain, he went to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was treated for a gunshot wound in his right buttocks. Police said they did not know the motive behind the shooting.

A motorist rear-ended a 43-year-old man’s car as he was driving on Carlton Avenue near Park Avenue on June 5 at 3 p.m. When the man got out to confront him, the suspect punched him in the stomach, then got back into his car and rammed into the victim as he drove off. The hit-and-run driver was described as a white man in his early 20s with short dark hair. The victim was treated by Emergency Medical Services for injuries to his back and leg.

T-Shirt Theft

A thief stole $65 worth of Marvel Comics t-shirts from Treasure Trove Novelty at 114 DeKalb Avenue on June 5 at 10:45 p.m. The storeowner told police that when he confronted the thief, he said “F*ck you, step outside,” before fleeing in a car.

Theft from Home

A thief sneaked into a 25-year-old woman’s apartment through the construction scaffolding outside the living room window of her apartment on Greene Avenue near Fulton Street on June 2. She told police that she left her apartment at 8:45 a.m. and came back at 7:30 p.m. to find her MacBook Air, a silver ring with yellow gemstones, a gold necklace with a butterfly pendant, a gold ring and a silver necklace with red coral beads missing.

iPhone Theft

A thief snatched a 30-year-old woman’s iPhone 5 as she was walking on Saint Felix Street near Fulton Street on June 2 at 12:30 p.m. She told police that the thief fled on a bicycle on Saint Felix Street.
Check Fraud

  • The owner of DBT Security Corporation, 150 Clermont Avenue, told police on June 4 that a fraudster had forged and cashed a check from his TD Bank business checking account for $3,186.34. He said he noticed the fraud when he checked his account online.
  • A thief forged and cashed four checks totaling $14,583.34 from the Community National Bank account of Smalls Electrical Construction between May 1 and May 28, the owner of the Brooklyn Navy Yard-based company told policeon June 6.

Citi Bike Theft Arrest

Police stopped a 13-year-old boy riding a Citi Bike the wrong way on Broadway Avenue near Roebling Street and arrested him when they discovered the bike had been stolen from the station on Carlton Avenue at Flushing Avenue two days before. The Kings County District Attorney’s office could not provide information on the charges because the suspect is a minor.

Apartment Scam

A 61-year-old man told police on June 7 that a con artist had swindled him out of $6,600. He said that the scammer had promised him an apartment on Clifton Place near Grand Avenue if he wired the cash to an account in Malaysia. Police said the con artist contacted the man through a Craigslist ad.

Theft at Baba Cool

A thief stole a 30-year-old woman’s tan purse, with her iPhone, $560 and U.S. passport, while she was drinking coffee at Baba Cool Café at 64 Lafayette Avenue on June 8 at 1 p.m. She told police she left her purse on the floor next to her chair.

Motorcycle Theft

A 33-year-old man told police on June 6 that he had left his motorcycle parked on Grand Avenue at Park Avenue on May 28 at noon and came back the next day at 9 a.m. to find it missing.

Car Theft

A 67-year-old man parked his 2000 Chevy Astro Cargo van on Waverly Avenue at Greene Avenue on June 7 at 10 a.m. and when he came back six hours later it was gone.

Domestic Assaults

  • A 20-year-old woman told police that her son’s father knocked her to the ground, punched and kicked her in her apartment on Saint Edwards Street and Willoughby Avenue on June 3 at 9 p.m. She was treated at Lutheran Medical Center for a broken right arm. Police also said he broke her iPhone.
  • Police arrested a couple for allegedly assaulting each other during an argument in their apartment on Clinton Avenue near DeKalb Avenue on June 6 at 8 p.m. David Canty, 50, attacked Antoin Milhous in the face with a pen and Milhous broke a broomstick over Canty’s head and bit him on the left hand, according to police. EMS treated both men. Each was charged with assault in the third degree, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, attempted assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.
