Crime Report: Home Burglaries, Bank Account Frauds and Thefts from Cars

A 52-year-old woman told police on April 1 that she had been making coffee in her kitchen after taking out the trash at 5:30 a.m. and heard the front door to her apartment building on Clermont Avenue near Lafayette Avenue open. She ran to the front door and found a man in the foyer opening the second door. She threw her weight against the door as he tried to push his way in. She told police he ran away when she screamed. Police searched but did not find him.

Including the above crime, 19 felonies and four arrests were reported in the 88th Precinct between March 30 and April 6. Locals also reported home break-ins, thefts from cars and bank account frauds.

Fare Beating Arrest

Police arrested Kadeidra Antrobus, 21, on April 5 at the Nevins Street subway station for allegedly crawling under a turnstile. Police said she punched one cop in the faced while she was being arrested. Antrobus is charged with assault in the second and third degrees, theft of services, resisting arrest, menacing in the second degree, disorderly conduct and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Burglaries

-A woman told police on March 30 that she and her roommates had heard someone trying to break into their apartment on Grand Avenue near Putnam Avenue at 7 a.m. that morning. She said they heard a loud banging on the door to the building and when they went to investigate, they found dents in the door.

-A 37-year-old woman told police on March 31 that someone had broken through the locked security gate of her apartment building on Clermont Avenue near DeKalb Avenue during the night and stole a red Jamis Dragon Reynolds mountain bike, said to be worth $800, that was in the hallway.

-Police arrested Roland Bowles, 32 on April 4 for allegedly breaking into two buildings on Grand Avenue on April 1 and April 3. Police suspect him of breaking into a 31-year-old man’s home on Grand Avenue near Putman Avenue on April 1 and trying to steal a bike, before the man saw him and ran him off. Two days later, he allegedly stole a bike from a woman’s apartment building on Grand Avenue near Gates Avenue. The Kings County District Attorney’s office did not have information on the charges.

Theft on Street

Police arrested Sunny Cadette, 17, on April 3 immediately after he allegedly snatched a 23-year-old woman’s cellphone while she was walking on South Portland Avenue near DeKalb Avenue and he ran off with it. Cadette is charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Thefts from Vehicles

-A 30-year-old man told police on March 31 that he had parked a U-Haul truck the night before on Park Avenue near Adelphi Street and came back to find the rear door open and $50,300 worth of his belongings gone. He said a Samsung television, an iPad, MacBook, a Rolex watch and his clothing had been stolen.

-A 47-year-old woman told police on April 1 that she had parked her car on Willoughby Street near Fleet Street at 2:45 p.m. and came back four hours later to find the rear passenger window broken and her bag, containing workout DVDs, an iPod, clothing, a Macy’s gift card and her TD Bank checkbook, missing.

-A 48-year-old man told police on April 3 that he had parked his car on Myrtle Avenue near Hall Street at noon and came back a half hour later to find a saw missing. He said he had left a rear door unlocked.

-A 38-year-old woman told police on April 6 that her brown luggage bag, containing a Michael Kors watch, Chanel Mademoiselle perfume, beauty supplies and MAC makeup had been stolen from her car parked on Grand Avenue near Myrtle Avenue. She said she had parked her car at 12:40 p.m. and came back four hours later to find her belongings gone.

Bank Account Frauds

-A 35-year-old man told police on March 31 that he had checked his Allied Bank checking account the night before and discovered that someone had withdrawn $1,200 from his account. He said he had his card at the time but cancelled his account after the discovery.

-A 29-year-old man told police on April 1 that someone had used his Chase debit card to withdraw $1,363.13. He told police he had lost his wallet, which contained his debit card, between March 24 and March 26.

-A 22-year-old woman told police on April 5 that someone had forged a check in her name and withdrawn $2,150 from her TD Bank account. She discovered the fraud when she tried to make a purchase the day before and there was no money in her account. She told police that her checkbook had gone missing from her apartment on Washington Avenue near Myrtle Avenue in January.

Thefts at Pratt Institute

-A Pratt Institute worker told police on April 1 that she had left her purse in a locker at 2 p.m. and came back at 8:30 p.m. to find it missing. She said that her Social Security Card, Excel Debit Visa Card, Best Buy credit card, Medicaid card and $20 in cash were in her bag.

-A 19-year-old Pratt Institute student told police on April 3 that his Canon camera, worth $4,500, had been stolen from a classroom. He said that he had left his camera on a desk for 10 minutes while he was in an adjacent room and when he came back his camera was gone.

Credit Card Fraud

A 41-year-old woman told police on April 3 that someone had used her personal information to open a Credit One credit card account and ran up $759 in charges.

Theft at Restaurant

A 31-year-old woman told police on April 6 that she had left her ASOS bag on a table at the Brooklyn Moon Café to buy drinks at 3 a.m. and came back to find it missing. She said the bag contained a Canon Rebel camera, a Rode video microphone and an iPhone 5.

Theft on Bus

A 31-year-old woman told police on April 5 that her wallet, with her Maryland state identification, FitBit and hotel key, had been stolen while she had been riding the bus. She said she discovered the theft when she arrived at her friend’s apartment on Clifton Place near Lafayette Avenue. Police could not say which bus line she took.

Car Thefts

-A 43-year-old man told police that he had parked his 2001 Ford Windstar on Hall Street near Willoughby Avenue on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. and when he came back the next day was gone.

-A 57-year-old woman told police on April 3 that she had parked her 2000 Honda CR-V on Lexington Avenue near Grand Avenue on March 2 and came back the next day to find it gone. Police could not say why she waited a month to report the missing car.

Domestic Violence

Police arrested Tyrone Barnett, 43, on April 3 for allegedly assaulting his 55-year-old girlfriend. She told police that she had an argument with Barnett on April 1 in her apartment in the Atlantic Terminal Houses and that he had pushed her to the floor and stepped on her right hand. The next day, she went to Brooklyn Hospital Center, where she was treated for broken bones in her hand. When she came home that evening, she found that her brother had let Barnett in to pick up his belongings. They argued again and he grabbed her cane and hit her on her head then fled. She received treatment on scene from Emergency Medical Technicians. The Kings County District Attorney’s office could not provide information on the charges.
