Crime Report: Another Kitchen Crook and a Minivan on Fire

At least $7,000 worth of new appliances was stolen from the kitchen of a newly renovated apartment on Grand Avenue near Fulton Street sometime between Nov. 7 and Nov. 11, according to police.

Police said the back bedroom door had been broken down and a refrigerator, microwave and stove were stolen. Police added that the burglary does not appear to be connected to a Sept. 10 incident in which burglars took a washer and dryer, kitchen cabinets, light fixtures and even a kitchen sink from a North Oxford Street apartment.

Including the most recent kitchen caper, 23 felonies were reported to 88th Precinct this week and police arrested six people.

Assaults

-A 29-year-old man was attacked by four men and hit with a bottle at SandersStudioNYC club at 525 Waverly Avenue on Nov. 17 around 3:30 a.m. The blow cut the victim’s head.

-Suzeilin Frade, 19, was arrested on Nov. 17 after she allegedly hit and choked a 19-year-old man in his home on Lafayette Avenue near Carlton Avenue around 10:30 p.m. The relationship between the two was not immediately known. The man told police Frade attacked him when he tried to walk away from an argument.

Frade was charged with assault in the third degree, criminal contempt in the second degree, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

Robberies

-Police arrested Andre Greene, 24, in connection with the attempted robbery of an iPhone 4S from a 24-year-old woman at the Walt Whitman Houses around 3 p.m. on Nov. 14. Police said a man pushed the woman to the ground and then took the phone. When the woman told the man she would call 911, he tossed the phone back to her before fleeing, a Kings County District Attorney’s office spokesperson said.

Greene was charged with attempted assault in the third degree, menacing in the third degree and harassment in the second degree, according to the DA’s office.

-A 25-year-old woman was beaten and robbed as she left the Chance 11 lounge on Fulton Street on Nov. 15 around 1 a.m., police said.

The victim was confronted by a man she had argued with earlier and beset by a group of women who punched her in the face, knocked her to the ground and stole her purse, which contained an iPhone 4s, $35 in cash, and identification card and a debit card from Carver Federal Savings Bank.

One of the victim’s friends helped police canvass the neighborhood and identified Sean T. Albert, 37, as one of the attackers, cops said.

Police arrested Albert at the corner of Saint James Place and Fulton Street. He was charged with robbery in the second and third degrees, grand larceny in the fourth degree, assault in the third degree, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, menacing in the third degree, harassment in the second degree and resisting arrest, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-A 32-year-old man told police he was walking home from a club near the corner of Navy Street and Flushing Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 16 when three men punched him from behind, knocking him to the ground, and took his $200 Windows smartphone.

Police arrested one suspect, Jewel Trowell, 23, but the District Attorney’s office said charges were likely to be dismissed.

-Three men took a Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone valued at $600, a MetroCard and $2 in cash from a 14-year-old boy on North Portland Avenue on the grounds of the Walt Whitman Houses around 3 p.m. on Nov. 16, police reported. Two of the men fled on foot, and one fled on a Citi Bike.

-Two men wearing black hoodies staged a gunpoint robbery of a discount store on Park Avenue between Carlton and North Portland Avenues on Nov. 17 at 2:20 a.m., police reported.

Police said the gunman forced two store employees to lie on the floor while his partner took $500 and cigarettes. The pair fled on Park Avenue.

Burglaries

-The owner of the Brooklyn Sweet Spot candy store on Myrtle Avenue between Adelphi Street and Clermont Avenue told police that when she opened her shop on Nov. 12  she found the cash register on the floor and $100 missing.

-Two men entered the Hanson Place Central United Methodist Church on Saint Felix Street between Lafayette Avenue and Hanson Place around 2 p.m. on Nov. 15 and took a Droid smartphone and a Samsung tablet, worth a total of $750.

-Someone stole an Apple MacBook Pro, a pearl necklace, a charm bracelet, gold chains and other jewelry from a Cumberland Street apartment on the evening of Nov. 15, according to police. The 28-year-old resident told police she had locked the door before leaving for work and that it was still locked when she returned. Police said one bedroom window was unlocked but closed.

Grand Larcenies

-A 23-year-old woman told police a pickpocketer stole a $900 iPhone 5S from her coat pocket on a C train at the Clinton-Washington Avenue station on Nov. 8 around 7 p.m. She said she remembered a man who appeared to be in his 20s bumping into her while the train was in the station, and discovered the phone missing at Franklin Avenue.

-Someone stole a Chase debit card, a driver’s license, a MetroCard, a New York University work ID and $26 from a Brooklyn Hospital Center patient’s drawer on Nov. 11, police said. The 45-year-old patient told police that he had left his room for therapy at 10 a.m. and  when he returned at noon, his bedside drawer was open and the items were gone.

-Someone took a woman’s pocket book from her child’s stroller when she went to see a doctor at SCO Family of Services at 570 Fulton Street on Nov. 13, cops said. The woman told police the pocket book contained an identification card, a debit card, a Social Security Card, WIC checks and a WIC identification card.

-Someone took a credit card, a debit card and a U.S. passport from the passenger side of a Penske rental truck on Nov. 15, police said. A 26-year-old woman told police that she was helping a friend pack the unlocked truck on Washington Avenue near Fulton Street when her items were taken.

-Police said they found a 1998 Mercury Villager minivan that had been reported missing from Lafayette and Grand Avenues on Nov. 11. The van, which had been torched, was ditched on MacDonough Street in Bedford Stuyvesant.

-Police arrested a 47-year-old man for allegedly stealing an SUV from the Myrtle Avenue parking lot where he worked before he was fired.

The owner of the Myrtle Avenue Parking Corp. on Myrtle Avenue near Prince Street told police he had fired the suspect on Nov. 8. Police said the suspect’s girlfriend tipped cops to the theft in a text message.

When they arrested the man, Gregory Burke, 47, on Nov. 12, police said they found a glass pipe containing crack cocaine residue.

Burke was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, criminal trespass in the third degree and trespass, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-A 44-year-old man reported his car missing from Vanderbilt Avenue between DeKalb and Willoughby Avenues around 4 p.m. on Nov. 12, police said. The man had  told cops he parked his 2007 Toyota RAV4 that morning across from his job site. Police said there was glass on the ground near where the car had been parked.

-A man told police he parked his cousin’s 2002 Mercury Sable on Classon Avenue near Fulton Street around 1 a.m. on Nov. 14, but when he returned around 9 a.m. it was missing.

Fraudulent Account Usage

-A woman checking the books at the Manhattan Hosiery Co. on Classon Avenue between Park and Myrtle Avenues on Nov. 13 told police she discovered that a customer had paid with a fraudulent $15,000 check.

-A 25-year-old man told police his bank informed him on Nov. 14 that someone had used his debit card to make nearly $2,700 in purchases. The man said he had discovered the card missing earlier that day.

Domestic Disputes

-A 40-year-old man told police that his girlfriend, 34-year-old Sabrina M. Gilbert, hurled a hot pan containing grease at his face on Nov. 12 around 9 p.m. at an apartment near the corner of Washington and Myrtle avenues. The man said he and Gilbert were arguing because she was cooking and would not turn on the vent.

Gilbert was arrested and charged with assault in the third degree, menacing in the second and third degrees and harassment in the second degree, according to the Kings County District Attorney’s office.

-A 27-year-old woman told police that during a fight with her boyfriend around 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 17, he choked her and took her cell phone and other items. The fight,at the Ingersoll Houses, reportedly began over going to the corner store. The boyfriend allegedly pulled the woman’s hair and started choking her before taking her LG Optimus L9 cell phone, her wallet and $60. Police said the cell phone was worth approximately $250. He also took Dove soap, baby powder and wipes before fleeing, police said. The man has not been arrested.
