Owner Mike Khuu had his painting clothes on while he and his team were readying the interior of 5ive Spice (52 5th Avenue at Bergen Street), his new Vietnamese restaurant.

“We should be open by mid-October,” said Khuu. “We’ve been waiting for work to be completed on the gas, but we’re very close.”

The new restaurant replaces the former tenant Cyprus Avenue, a neighborhood pub.

Soon enough, you’ll be able to sample the Banh Xeo tacos, one specialty the new restaurant will be offering. The dish consists of a traditional Vietnamese pancake stuffed with a variety of meats and veggies. “We’re going back to our roots,” says Khuu. “It’s traditional to eat them with your hands.” Banh mi will also be on the menu.

Khuu explains that alcohol won’t be served at 5ive Spice. “We want this to be kid-friendly, and we’re going to try to keep the price under $15 for all our dishes.”

This will be Khuu’s third restaurant in the city. He is also the owner of The Boil, a small Cajun seafood place on the Lower East Side, and Saigon Shack, a Vietnamese restaurant in the Village.

Khuu says he’s looking forward to the opening. “We’re going to offer organic, high end spices, and some amazing fish sauce.”

We’ll be stopping by to check out the menu when it opens and we’ll keep you updated about the exact opening date.
