The LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park opens to the public today, Friday, December 20 at 11am, and while you can get out and skate today, they’ve got some free activities, entertainment, and giveaways planned throughout this weekend. Events start on Saturday at 11am and include:
• Learn how to churn ice cream using a bicycle from Ample Hills Creamery, then how to burn off some calories with yoga from Bend & Bloom Yoga and Jaya Yoga Center.
• Brooklyn Children’s Theater teach theater songs and dance, a group class with Taro’s Origami, a puppetry performance from Puppetsburg, plus face painting and winter-themed arts and crafts.
• Performances by kid-friendly musical groups Frolic, Rolie Polie Guacamole, Mil’s Trills, the Soul Tigers Marching Band, and a reading by Brooklyn author and resident Amy Herrick’s novel The Time Fetch.
On Sunday there will be appearances by local, aspiring skaters and live performances by Junior and Novice Team USA Synchronized Skating teams, hockey demonstrations courtesy of Brooklyn Blades, curling demonstrations from The Long Island Curling Club, and family-friendly ice sports like ice golf.
If you want to check out the rinks but don’t want to schlep all your kids and gear on the subway, one possible alternative this weekend is to grab a car service using the app Über, which is offering a free ride to or from Lakeside (up to $20) if you enter the promo code LAKESIDEBK.
