Councilman Mathieu Eugene Hosts Holiday Party For Hundreds Of Children At PS 139

Councilman Mathieu Eugene hosted his annual holiday party for neighborhood children and their families at PS 139 (330 Rugby Road) this past Saturday, when close to 500 underprivileged kids received a free toy and meal.

In addition to the toys, which the lawmaker’s office collected during his annual holiday drive, Saturday’s soirée included musical and dance performances, including from the PS 399 tap dancing troupe and Talent Under One Roof, a dance school based at 1692 Flatbush Avenue.

Among those joining the local children and their families were PS 139 Principal Mary McDonald, Public Advocate Letitia James, Assemblyman Walter Mosley, and Democratic District Leader Ed Powell – though it was probably the surprise appearance by Santa Claus that garnered the most excitement from our young neighbors.

“There are many people in our community who work so hard to provide for their children, but still lack the means to buy toys for them during the holiday season,” Eugene said in a press release. “The annual holiday toy party is an event that enables parents to bring their children to a venue where they have the opportunity to receive a gift and enjoy a meal.”

“I would like to extend my warmest holiday greetings to people of all faiths in my district and throughout New York City,” he added.
