Councilman Eugene Announces October “Cortelyou Road Traffic Calming Forum”
In response to a long line of complaints regarding traffic problems on Coney Island Avenue, Councilman Mathieu Eugene is holding a “Cortelyou Road Traffic Calming Forum” on October 11.
The meeting was first promised in July but initially failed to materialize. Heather Hart, the Councilman’s Legislative and Budget Director, says that Eugene’s office has been working with the Department of Transportation to find a mutually convenient date to make sure that the right people from the DOT would be available. Heather further explained that September’s high holy days make an October date better for the community at large.
In June, Eugene said he had plans for a traffic light at the intersection of Cortelyou and Westminster Roads. Neighbors had over a dozen ideas about what needs to be done on the streets of the area to improve safety. Three months later, are there any more ideas you have for improving the state of the streets?
The situation on Coney Island Avenue remains bleak in regard to obeying the traffic laws. I present Exhibit Z (see exhibits A-Y here), a couple of recent pictures sent in from Michael McWatters showing the street’s businesses parking cars on the sidewalk as per usual.
A few more pictures came in on Monday from Alsivi to ditmasparkcorner@gmail.com.
