Cops Rescue Suicidal Man From Bay Parkway Ledge With Giant Net

NYPD hostage negotiators used a massive net to rescue a nearly naked suicidal man from a Bay Parkway building ledge on Sunday.

The distraught man — wearing nothing but briefs and a curtain — had barricaded himself in his fifth floor apartment near 84th Street at around 1:30 pm, and was shouting from his perch in Russian and English and throwing off his clothing, reports the New York Daily News.

During an hours-long standoff with specialty police units —  part of which was captured on camera by the news outlet — the man repeatedly threatened to take his own life and accused officers of trying to kill him.

“You want to kill me!” The man can be heard shouting through the tense negotiations, which lasted nearly four hours.

As police communicated with the man, they managed to pull a giant net from the building’s roof to a fourth floor apartment window to prevent the man from falling to his death. He was pulled to safety at approximately 5:30pm, according to reports.

The man was transported to Coney Island Hospital where he is undergoing psychiatric evaluation, according to authorities.
