Cops Of The Month Honored By Plaque
Sergeant Dmitry Durets and Police Officer Daniel Kirk are the first names to be engraved on a plaque honoring extraordinary officers at the 61st Precinct.
The plaque is a gift from the 61st Precinct Community Council, and will hang in the building’s hallways. The Cop of the Month award is a Council meeting tradition dating back several years, but this marks the first time there will be an engraved plaque. Previously, officers honored as Cop of the Month were given printed certificates.
Durets and Kirk were recognized for their alertness, which led to the lockup of a thug days after an incident. Cops were first called to the scene of a home invasion, where an armed burglar dressed as a construction worker fled on foot, menacing residents as he went by. The suspect got away, but police were familiar with his identity. Days later, Durets and Kirk were on patrol when they spotted the burglar sitting in a livery cab. They arrested him for armed robbery.
