Officers from the 62nd Precinct have nabbed a man they believe is responsible for a recent car break-in in Bensonhurst.

Gus Martakis — who has a history of car thefts — was arrested on 18th Avenue and 84th Street on Thursday, March 17, at approximately 5:25pm, and found to be in possession of a stolen LG phone, according to the NYPD.

This is not the first cell phone thief apprehended by cops in recent weeks. In February, technology helped the NYPD find a pair of iPhone thieves who held up a group of teenagers at the playground near Bensonhurst Park. Cops say that the “Find My iPhone” app helped officers track the device to a B74 bus headed down Mermaid Avenue.

This most recent arrest, however, was “just good old-fashioned police work,” according to 62nd Precinct Commanding Officer Captain Anthony Sanseverino. After a spate of car-related burglaries on Cropsey Avenue and Shore Parkway, near Bay 11th Street, last month, cops have been aggressively targeting car recidivists in the area.

Martakis was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
