Cook with David Sheridan in Flatbush Reformed Church’s Soup Kitchen

A special cooking clinic in the soup kitchen at the Flatbush Reformed Church is taking place Friday, November 16 and Saturday, November 17 with the help of Wheated’s David Sheridan and the Church Avenue Business Improvement District.

The event is part of the BID’s new program, From Roti to Rhubarb: The Food of Church Avenue. The team will be preparing a Sheridan family recipe and side dishes as they create a pre-Thanksgiving meal for 75-100 Flatbush residents-in-need. The BID is seeking volunteers for three shifts, as well as dessert donations and home-made table decorations. Donations can be delivered to the BID’s office at  884 Flatbush Avenue off Church Avenue between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. from Wednesday November 14 through Friday November 16.

Volunteer shifts are:

• Friday November 16 (four hours in the afternoon, TBD)

• Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

• Saturday, Nov. 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“People have been so willing to help after the hurricane, especially those residing in areas that were not hit as hard as some other NYC neighborhoods,” explained BID Executive Director Lauren Elvers Collins. “We hope that Flatbush and Ditmas residents will pitch in to help their neighbors next Friday and Saturday. With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we want to create a warm, welcoming meal for Flatbush residents who are struggling.”

To get involved, contact Lauren at lauren.collins00@gmail.com or 917-538-5784 with your name, phone number and preferred shift. Volunteers must be over age 18.
