Sunset Park Man Who Stabbed Neighbor To Death Gets 25 Years Behind Bars

A 67-year-old Sunset Park man has been convicted in the stabbing death of his 23-year-old neighbor — a father of two — and faces up to 25 years in prison for the crime.

Juan Ramos, of 239 55th Street, was convicted of second-degree murder for killing Giovanni Rodriguez-Arias during an argument September 29, 2013, as well second-degree assault for stabbing a man who tried to intervene, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson.

“This defendant murdered a young father of two and now will spend most of the rest of his life behind bars,” Thompson.

According to trial testimony, on September 29, 2013, at approximately 3 p.m., the defendant fatally stabbed Giovanni Rodriguez-Arias following an argument. The victim, 23, was stabbed in the stomach and arm with a knife hidden beneath the defendant’s sweater. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second victim was stabbed in the hand while attempting to resolve the dispute.
Shortly after the incident, the defendant was identified as a suspect [and his] photo was released to the public. Following a tip, the defendant was apprehended on the roof of a Sunset Park building.
