Congratulations To The PS 139 Chess Ninjas!

The PS 139 Chess Ninjas’ rookie team: Maya, Nevin, Emma, Declan, Polly, and Kalsang.

A huge congratulations to the PS 139 Chess Ninjas for doing an excellent job at at the Greater New York Scholastic Chess Championship last weekend!

The Chess Ninjas sent 16 incredible players to the championship, and Ninjas Coach Ian West let us know that the advanced team finished in 12th place, the intermediate team ranked 9th, and the rookie squad took home fourth place.

Tashi Sherpa, Aayushma Rai, Ellis Wong, Emmet Duprey, Brian Thevenot, Alexander Pierre Joy, Aowyn Schneider, Sonam Sherpa, Ngawang Sherpa, Emma Adams, Maya Emert-Wiggins, Nevin Swanson, Declan Lutton-Seignoret, Kalsang Nangchung, and Polly Morrow.

The Chess Ninjas’ best individual score was turned in by Alexander Pierre Joy, who scored a perfect 5.0/5 for 1st place in the intermediate section.

Aowyn Schneider finished 8th in the same section with 4.0/5. There were 158 competitors in that section.
