Congratulations, FAB Alliance And Ingersoll Garden Of Eden! Local Groups Win First Place In Greenest Block In Brooklyn Contest
Congratulations are in order for several neighborhood groups who put the “green” in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, winning first place and honorable mentions in several categories of the 2015 Greenest Block In Brooklyn.
Coming in first place in the Commercial Category is the Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance for the green sidewalk on Fulton Street between South Portland Avenue and South Oxford Street.
In the same category, an honorable mention was granted to the stretch of Myrtle Avenue between Hall Street and Washington Avenue, as maintained by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership (MARP).
And in perhaps the most gratifying win, the resident-led Ingersoll Garden of Eden at the Ingersoll Houses, along Myrtle Avenue between Fleet Place and Navy Street was awarded FIRST PLACE(!) by the National Grid Leadership in Sustainable Practices.
And a little outside of our boundaries, as we walk to Downtown Brooklyn via Bridge Plaza, we pass Bridge Plaza Community Garden (on Concord Street between Bridge and Duffield), which won First Place for Best Community Garden Streetscape. The Greenest Block in Brooklyn contest promotes streetscape, gardening, tree stewardship, and community development throughout Brooklyn. The project is supported by GreenBridge, the community environmental horticulture program of Brooklyn Botanic Garden, as well as Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.
You can see a full list of the winners – as well as photos of all the great greenery in our borough – here.
