Confidential, Free Mortgage Counseling Available For Area Residents
Free legal counseling is available to area homeowners who are in danger of losing their homes or have encountered changes in their financial circumstances.
Councilmember David Greenfield is partnering with Brooklyn Housing and Family Services this year to provide free one-on-one mortgage counseling to residents of Borough Park, Kensington, Midwood and Bensonhurst.
Residents from other neighborhoods in our area — such as Ditmas Park — can also schedule an appointment, the Council Member’s office said.
Residents will be able to meet with an experienced attorney to discuss credit or budget issues, predatory lending, interest rate issues, late mortgage payments and foreclosure prevention.
Councilmember Greenfield noted that his district, like many others in New York, is home to a significant number of homeowners who are at risk of foreclosure.
Those making appointments are asked to bring photo identification and all relevant documentation regarding the mortgage to be discussed. Meetings will begin taking place later this month and are by appointment only.
Call Councilmember Greenfield’s office at (718) 853-2704 to schedule an appointment.
Greenfield also offers by-appointment assistance at his district office each month for those who need legal assistance with immigration-related issues.
