A student at Benjamin Banneker Academy (77 Clinton Avenue) is suing the city, city Department of Education (DOE), and a fellow student for allegedly selling her a brownie laced with marijuana that, upon ingestion, left her paralyzed.

Student Danieel Buchanan has accused the school of allowing students to sell un-inspected food items to one another in the school cafeteria, which is how she came to buy and eat the pot brownie from student Jahkeem Dwyer, who she alleges never told her about the fact that it was not an ordinary brownie.

According to the New York Post, Buchanan’s mother says the adulterated sweet treat has left her daughter “not able to walk.”

However, Dwyer’s father seemed to imply that the victim was a willing participant in “recreational” drug use:

Owen Dwyer, Jahkeem’s dad, told The Post his son admitted to being “part of a group of kids who all put their money together to make” the pot brownies.
“It’s unfortunate if anything did happen to her based on her trying something recreationally,” he said.

It is unclear whether any other students suffered negative side effects from eating the pot brownies.

What do you think about this lawsuit? About students being able to sell food to one another?
