Our extraordinary neighborhood library is about to get even more fantastic, thanks to a $10,000 prize for the Clinton Hill Library, from the 2015 NYC Neighborhood Library Awards!

Clinton Hill Library was one of five city libraries that received the finalist prizes in the library awards; the other branches were Windsor Terrace, Cambria Heights, Sunnyside, and Jefferson Market.

“My staff is delighted,” said neighborhood branch supervisor Tracey Mantrone. “For us it was an honor to even become a finalist because the community had to support us in order for us to even be named, so the fact that they supported us enough made us a winner.”

Still, having the shiny plaque is a great reminder of that community love, so “we’re gonna get the plaque a little display case,” said Mantrone.

Another prize extra is the following two-minute video ode to the Clinton Hill Library, created by the Awards folks to emphasize the awesomeness that is our branch:

“Neighborhood Library Supervisor Tracey Mantrone and her team do an outstanding job serving a diverse community with first-rate programs and resources,” stated Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) President/CEO Linda Johnson. “From career and after-school help to yoga classes and Yu-Gi-Oh!, there is something for everyone at Clinton Hill Library, and we are so grateful to the neighborhood for its continued support of the branch.”

Brooklyn’s New Lots Library was one of five branches that won the grand-prize $20,000 award. The rest were in other boroughs, such as the Stapleton (Staten Island), Parkchester (the Bronx), Mott Haven (the Bronx), and Langston Hughes (Queens) branches.

The NYC Neighborhood Library Awards were given by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Charles H. Revson Foundation to each branch that exemplifies “the crucial role of local libraries in serving New York City’s diverse communities.”
