Clinton Hill Library Is One Step Closer To Winning $20,000
More good news for fans and patrons of Clinton Hill Library: the library at 380 Washington Avenue is one of 10 finalists in the second annual NYC Neighborhood Library Awards!
The five winners will be announced in May — a prize of $20,000 will be awarded by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Charles H. Revson Foundation to each branch that exemplifies “the crucial role of local libraries in serving New York City’s diverse communities.” So here’s to hoping that the the gushing of hundreds of our library patrons and neighbors will knock the judges’ socks off!
Among the thousands of nominations that poured in between November and December, 2014 was this one, from Jane, a Clinton Hill resident:
Seed exchange, coupon exchange, resume workshops, and now exercise classes…I am always impressed by the services provided at this library and how it uniquely promotes community.
Judges include authors Maira Kalman, Jonathan Safran Foer, and Jacqueline Woodson; Susan Hildreth, former director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services; Dutton Children’s Books publisher Julie Strauss-Gabel, and Maya Wiley, counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio.
The other Brooklyn nominees are the New Lots and Windsor Terrace branch libraries.
The rest are in Queens (Cambria Heights, Corona, and Sunnyside), the Bronx (Mott Haven and Parkchester), Manhattan (Jefferson Market), and Staten Island (Stapleton).
Last year’s Brooklyn winners — Sheepshead Bay Library and Macon Library — were not eligible for nomination this year.
