Road rage + Trump trash talk = a bizarre brawl that took place yesterday morning (Thursday, March 17) on Clinton Avenue near Greene Avenue between city sanitation workers and an SUV driver.

According to video obtained by New York Daily News, the two workers had blocked both sides of the street — one lane with their truck and the other lane with a pile of recycling bags that they were loading into the compactor — when an SUV approached and the driver got out and “yelled” at them to move the bags and clear a path through.

In response, the workers alternately told the driver to “behave or you’ll be deported,” declared “Where’s [Donald] Trump when you need him?” and stood in front of his car and dared him to run him over.

Eventually, one sanitation worker drove the truck over to the correct side of the road, enabling the SUV driver to back up and drive around the other worker, who had still been standing in front of his bumper.

According to a NYC Sanitation spokesperson, both workers have been identified and “issued complaints.” They were also suspended and the “troubling” incident is under investigation, said City Hall/mayor’s office spokesperson Amy Spitalnick.

However, union president Harry Nespoli of the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association stated that the workers’ behavior was not indicative of anything larger than simple frustration.

“This was just the reaction of some guys in the field,” Nespoli told the Daily News. “The public has a tendency to yell at us for blocking the street. We tell our guys not to get into arguments with the public, so this was more or less them turning around and being frustrated with this gentleman.”

Regardless, witnesses said the whole thing escalated to a “bizarre” level.

“I just thought it was bizarre,” said one man, who only identified himself only as Chuck. “The (SUV driver) was angry that the sanitation workers were blocking the street — but they took it to another level.”
“They got crazy,” the 40-year-old witness added.
