City Kid Connect: What Is Your Perfect Brooklyn Weekend?
“What are we going to do this weekend, Mom?” is one of those questions that tends to recycle itself every Wednesday or Thursday.
With so many incredible destinations around the borough, you would think that planning some family fun and adventure would be a piece of cake, but for some reason, our weekends always end up feeling a bit samey.
That’s when the eureka moment hit. Why not ask the kids what they want to do?
As parents, we often put a lot of pressure on ourselves to create these perfectly manicured family activities — especially when the kids are young. Why shoulder all that stress, though, when your preschooler really just wants to stare at the C-Town lobster tank, or roll down a big hill in Prospect Park?
We tracked down five city kids from around the borough, and asked what activities they would choose to do on a perfect Brooklyn weekend. Here’s what they had to say:
“I would like to ride a ferry boat around Brooklyn. I like the yellow ones. Also, make sculptures at home out of play dough. And go to the Children’s Museum — my favorite part is a secret spot where you can see the fish. I would also like to do movie night with my friends.” — Nico, age 7
“The Jewish museum. They have this rubber and wood thing that you put paper on it and you use a crayon to make the picture that was on the rubber… And there’s other stuff like a kids store where you get to push a cart and pick out food.” — Adison, age 6
“Coney Island. I like all the rides and the beach there.” — Ainsley, age 4
“I would go to the Brooklyn Museum with my dad. I would take him to the mummy chamber.” — Nolan, age 5
“I would ride all of the subways!” — Connor, age 5
