CHiP In For Giving Tuesday

Now that we’re into November, the holiday season is officially upon us, and that means family, gifts, and, for many, giving back to their local community. And starting today, we’ve got a special way to help out CHiPS, the 4th Avenue organization that provides hot meals and more to families in need.

Beginning on November 4, during the four weeks leading up to Giving Tuesday — the new annual day meant to celebrate and encourage charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations — CHiPS is asking people to raise money to help get them through the winter, their busiest time of the year, through creative fundraising events.

The possibilities are endless. You could hold a bake sale with neighbors on 7th Avenue, a raffle featuring prizes collected from local businesses, or just a donation box set up in your office.

The money raised will go a long way to helping neighbors in need. With just $25, CHiPS can feed 15 guests at its soup kitchen, and with $75, they can provide a week’s shelter for a homeless young mother, her newborn, and a toddler. Homeless rates in New York are up this year, so they expect to be busier than usual. Any amount can help!

Ready to go? Organize your fundraising event (and feel free to email us if it’s something we can help promote on our events roundups), then take pictures and share them with CHiPS on Twitter and Facebook, mentioning #GivingTuesday and #ChipIn, or send them to steph4chips@gmail.com so they can share them.

Then you can donate the money directly online, or write a check to Park Slope Christian Help and send it to CHiPS, 200 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11217-3180.

And on Giving Tuesday (November 25), you’ll have a chance to see how the money you raised helps CHiPS, when they’ll be hosting an open house with food, drink, and a lot of generous neighbors.

Want to get involved right away? There’s already one event coming up — CHiPS has organized a night of fun and games at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club in Gowanus on Sunday, November 9 from 4-7pm. A $25 ticket includes hours of shuffleboard play and a drink, so grab your ticket today!
