If you listen to NPR’s Morning Edition or watch PBS animated shorts, you may be familiar with StoryCorps–an oral history project and nonprofit documenting the lives of Americans in 40 (or in the case of public broadcast, more like three) minute segments.

Our sister site Ditmas Park Corner recently spoke to Dave Isay–the founder of StoryCorps who has worked with his staff in Fort Greene to collect about 50,000 StoryCorps interviews so far–about his impetus behind the project, what he’s learned by listening, and some of his favorite spots in Brooklyn.

Check out the interview here, which features a great recorded retelling by Dave of some of his own family lore.
