Character Building Summer Programs For Youth Ages 10 To 24

Summer camps and other programs for young kids abound in NYC, but what are your high schooler’s plans for the warmer months? Here are a few options to get youth valuable experience and connections, something extra for that college application, and maybe even a little cash this summer:

  • The NYPD Summer Youth Academy is run by the Community Affairs Bureau, and is designed to foster positive relationships between young people and police as well as to teach participants about law, behavioral science, and more. Kids ages 10-16 are eligible for the program, which takes place over six weeks from early July to mid-August and is held five days per week from 8:30am to 2pm. Participants will receive free lunch and a uniform shirt, and preference will be given to kids who haven’t taken part in the program before. Fill out an application here, then send it anytime from this Friday, April 18 to Friday, June 27.
