Celebrate Turkey Day With Turkey Leg Cocoa Krispies Treats
With order deadlines for turkeys and pies coming up this week, Thanksgiving Day feast preparations are well underway in homes across the borough.
Whether you’re starting the Turkey Day party early, or you’re looking for a few new sweet treats for next week, we’ve got a fantastic (and kid-friendly) recipe for turkey leg Cocoa Krispies treats that is sure to steal the show on your dessert table.
Best of all, no stovetop or oven baking are necessary, so even our youngest Brooklynites can pitch in and help.
First, gather your ingredients:
- 6 cups of Cocoa Krispies
- 4 cups of regular marshmallows
- Jumbo marshmallows
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 1 bag of white chocolate chips
- Pretzel rods
Place your regular marshmallows and butter in a microwave safe bowl. Set the timer for 30 seconds, and then stir. Repeat until your marshmallows are melted.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to use a bowl that is large enough to compensate for marshmallow expansion.
Once your marshmallows are melted (and, if you used a bowl that was too small for your marshmallow expansion, you’ve cleaned up the mess in the microwave), pour your marshmallow over the Cocoa Krispies. Stir until well blended, and put aside.
Next, melt the white chocolate chips. Once again, you’ll want to do this slowly. Heat the chips on medium heat for 30 seconds at a time. Sir and repeat until they’re all melted.
Dip your pretzel rods into the melted chocolate and place on a strip of wax paper to harden.
After the pretzels have hardened, slather a bit of butter on your hands. Scoop out a handful of the Cocoa Krispies mix, and mold it into a turkey leg shape around the top of your pretzel. Press a jumbo marshmallow to the other end of the pretzel, and then dip that end in a bit more melted white chocolate.
Give it a few more minutes to harden, and your turkey leg Cocoa Krispies treats are ready to go!
