Celebrate Maurice Sendak, Shop & Support PS 118 At Whole Foods On Friday

If you’ve got some grocery shopping to do, tomorrow is a great day to do it, as 5% of all the sales at the Gownaus Whole Foods on Friday, September 19 will go to our local PS 118 The Maurice Sendak Community School. Plus, there will be some awesome Sendak-inspired activities throughout the day!

This is a nice opportunity to show community support for the school, which opened last year at 211 8th Street at 4th Avenue. They’ll be using

funds from the 5% Day to helping establish a “green and healthy” educational program, a garden, and a greenhouse at the school.Since it’s also the 50th anniversary of Sendak’s classic book Where the Wild Things Are, there will be much more to do than just fill your cart with items for your kids’ school lunches. Here’s the lineup of family-friendly events:
  • 10am-7pm: Meet Carol the Wild Thing
  • 10am, 12pm, 2pm: Interactive book readings of Sendak favorites in the 2nd floor cafe
  • 3-7pm: Maurice Sendak-inspired arts & crafts in the 2nd floor cafe
  • Costume Contest: Stop by the store between 10am-7pm and take your picture with Carol to enter to win the Sendak-inspired costume competition! Winner of the costume competition will receive a “Lunch with Friends” at Whole Foods, a prize valued at $50. Every entrant into the competition will be entered to win a raffle prize (a Whole Foods bag full of snacks and activities).

It’s all happening at Whole Foods, 214 3rd Street, on the corner of 3rd Avenue, tomorrow!
