CB7 Vote Stalls 7th Avenue Bike Lane Extension

Proposed 7th Avenue Bike Lane Extension for 15th to 20th Streets via DOT

The Department of Transportation (DOT) failed to sell all Community Board 7 (Sunset Park, Windsor Terrace) members on a bike lane extension on 7th Avenue.

DOT presented a proposal last Wednesday that would extend an approved CB 6 bike lane running along 7th Avenue from Flatbush to 15th Street up to 23rd Street at Green-Wood Cemetery.

CB6 approved the plan from Flatbush Avenue to 15th Street in December 2016.

Out of the 30 community board members who voted last week, 14 voted in favor of the extension, 7 opposed, and 9 abstained, according to Jeremy Laufer, District Manager of CB7.

Since Wednesday’s vote did not receive a majority ‘no’ votes, DOT can revise the proposal and present it to CB7 again at a later date, according to Patch.

“We are reviewing information from last week’s CB7 meeting and figuring out next steps,” a spokesperson for DOT told BKLYNER.

“The board remains open to additional information” about the plan, Laufer states.

“Regarding installation of the project from Flatbush to 15th Street, which is within CB6, we anticipate work to begin this spring,” according to DOT.
