After a crash at the intersection of 8th Avenue and Windsor Place in July, we heard from many readers that this intersection is one of many problem intersections in the area.

The Department of Transportation recently presented a number of locations in Windsor Terrace that would be suitable for speed humps, which caused some tempers to fly at the first Community Board 7 Transportation Committee meeting to discuss the humps earlier this month.

Many residents have expressed the need for a traffic signal at this intersection. Community Board 7 agrees that the intersection should be studied and sent a letter at the beginning of August to the DOT asking them to consider putting a traffic light at the intersection.

“Speeding has been a complaint of residents in this part of our community for quite some time. Our residents are concerned that the seniors at the [Bishop Boardman] housing facility are vulnerable to speeding vehicles and believe they deserve a safe, controlled crossing point on their corner,” the letter reads.

The DOT responded today to the CB7 saying that they will conduct a study on the intersection and they plan to report back to CB7 with the results by November.
