DITMAS PARK – Get ready, Ditmas Park, because Carvel is making its way to the neighborhood!

There aren’t many ice cream shops in the neighborhood. In fact, the Baskin Robbins on Coney Island Avenue and 18th Avenue is pretty much the only spot to find a sundae. Recently, however, a poster reading: “Opening Soon. Carvel. America’s Freshest Ice Cream” appeared on the building at the corner of Foster Avenue and Coney Island Avenue.

“A great idea, as there is no ice cream facility in the neighborhood. In addition, ice cream has a calming effect,” Michael Miller, a neighbor said. “Who can get angry when they see Fudgie the Whale or have a cone filled with delicious chocolate or vanilla swirled ice cream in a cone?”

The new Carvel is replacing the 99 Cents store that went out of business a few months back. In a Facebook post about the opening, one neighbor commented, “I see a hot fudge sundae in my future. This is a great addition to the area. It’s not another 99 cent store.”

Another neighbor commented: “I am seriously stoked for this. The only other option nearby for me is the Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins where half the time the ice cream is freezer burnt.”

There’s no opening date as of yet, but as soon as we hear something, we’ll update!
