Car Wash Attack, An Attempted Murder & More Recent Crimes In Kensington

The last incident in this, the latest felony crime report from the 66th Precinct, happened less than a week ago, and the report covers a shorter period — 14 days, from Friday, April 11 to Friday, April 25. The crimes occurred in Kensington’s two police sectors, G and K.

Sector G includes Beverley Road to Avenue F, and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue; Sector K covers Caton Avenue to Beverley Road and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue. The entire 66th Precinct is split into 13 sectors, lettered A-J.

ROBBERY

Friday, April 11, 4:16pm
36th Street & 13th Avenue
Five teenaged boys stopped another boy, 13, while he was walking home, and police say they took his Beats headphones and an iPhone — and the next day the 66th Precinct Detective squad arrested one of the perps, a 17-year-old.

Friday, April 18, 1:50am
Church & McDonald Avenues
Police say four men approached a man, 32, at the intersection and demanded his money, then one man, armed with a bat, hit the victim on his left arm, while the others took his cell phone and $500 cash.

FELONY ASSAULT

Monday, April 14, 5am
Hollywood Car Wash, 488 Coney Island Avenue
The Hollywood Car Wash’s owner told police that a man, 24, walked into the car wash and created a disturbance. Police say that when the owner asked the man to leave, he grabbed a wooden stick and struck the owner just above the shoulders, bruising him and making himself a literal royal pain in the owner’s neck.

GRAND LARCENY

Thursday, April 10, 10am, reported to the NYPD on April 11
15th Avenue between 36th & 37th Streets
Police say a woman reported that she’d hired a woman to clean for her — she worked 10 hours, and later, once the cleaning woman had left, the woman discovered her wig and jewelry were missing.

Monday, April 14, sometime between 6:30pm and 2pm on April 15, reported to the NYPD on April 16
East 3rd Street between Ditmas Ave & Ave F
When a man returned to spot where he’d parked his car, police say he found the front driver’s window broken and his cell phone, a pocketbook with $30 in it, his credit cards, and a prayer book missing.

ARSON

Wednesday, April 23, 1:50am
SER Convenience store, 3901 Fort Hamilton Parkway
As we previously reported, according to the NYPD, 35-year-old Charles Diaz allegedly ignited a flammable liquid in a glass container and then threw it into the occupied bodega, injuring a the 34-year-old clerk, and setting off a fire. The suspect turned himself in the next day and was arrested by the Arson Squad. He was charged with attempted murder, assault 2, arson, and criminal possession of a weapon.
