Car Flips On 6th Avenue, Sends Two To Hospital

A crash that flipped a car on 6th Avenue on Friday morning injured three people and sent two to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The FDNY tells us they responded to the crash on 6th Avenue at 21st Street at about 8:45am and transported two people to Lutheran Hospital. A third victim refused medical attention against the advice of emergency responders.

Following the crash, some neighbors expressed long-standing concerns about this stretch of 6th Avenue.

“Last year I almost got run over with my daughter in my hand, 2 years ago I saw similar accident on 23rd and 6th… Now this,” says a neighbor who shared the photo above, and who wished to remain anonymous. “So easy to prevent this.”

“This is a huge problem on 6th Ave between 20th And 23rd Sts, as drivers frequently speed go get to 24th St (not sure why),” writes neighbor Aaron Brashear on Concerned Citizens of Greenwood Heights. “With poor site lines on the side blocks, this happens a lot, though not to today’s extent.”

We’ve reached out to the NYPD for additional information about what may have caused the crash and how many people may have been involved, and will update once we learn more.
