Cafe Rokhat On Sheepshead Bay Road Changes Name To Cafe Dushanbe

Cafe Dushanbe replaces Cafe Rokhat
Cafe Dushanbe replaces Cafe Rokhat

Cafe Rokhat at 1788 Sheepshead Bay Road is now dubbed Cafe Dushanbe, after a signage change late last month.

But lovers of the previous Tajik restaurant need not worry – it remains the same kitchen staff turning out pretty much the same menu. According to an employee, one of the partners split to give his full attention to his other storefront – Tandir Rokhat at 2678 Coney Island Avenue after almost exactly two years since helping launch the Sheepshead Bay Road location.

Dushanbe, for those interested in a little learnin’, is the capital of Tajikistan. It also means “Monday” in the Tajik language, because the city grew from the site of a Monday market. Here’s a timelapse of all of Dushanbe’s sites, because, why not?

Best of luck to Cafe Dushanbe!
