Owner of Di Fara’s Not Worried About Potential Building Sale

The Avenue J building that houses neighborhood institution Di Fara Pizza is up for sale, reports NY Eater.

The owners of 1424 Avenue J have put the building on the market for roughly $4 million, but Di Fara Pizza is not fretting about the potential sale.

“We’re not worried at all,” said Dominic DeMarco, whose family manages the pizzeria. DeMarco told us that he believed it would be difficult for the building’s owner to get the asking price of $4 million, given its condition.

Pizza lovers have other reasons to remain hopeful — NY Eater says that real estate promotional materials “celebrate the pizzeria, which has been around since 1965, as giving the building ‘a great deal of prominence.'”

And if 1424 Avenue J is sold and the new owner doesn’t want the famed pizzeria on the ground floor? Other building owners are already offering space for Di Fara’s if necessary, DeMarco said.

The four-story, mixed-use Midwood building houses three other storefronts and six apartments. It has been sold a “few times,” since Di Fara Pizza has been there, the last time being 2002, NY Eater says.
