Brooklyn Tech Teacher Arrested This Morning For Allegedly Sending Student Explicit Photo

A Brooklyn Tech math and science teacher was arrested this morning and is being charged after allegedly sending a photo of his genitals to a 16-year-old female student, says the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.

Sean Shaynak is charged with harassment, obscenity, disseminating indecent material to a minor, and endangering the welfare of a minor. The 44-year-old East Flatbush resident is said to have been Facebook friends with the victim, but sent the photo, which she saved by taking a screen shot, via the Snapchat app on June 27. The FBI was originally contacted about the allegations, who then contacted the NYPD to investigate the incident.

“This is a disturbing allegation as schools should be safe havens for students where teachers should protect our children from, and not expose them to, such disgusting sexual images,” said District Attorney Kenneth Thompson in a press release. “Here, the defendant is accused of betraying his position of trust and he will now be held accountable for his actions.”

Shaynak was arraigned today in Brooklyn Supreme Court, and is currently being held on $100,000 bond or $25,000 cash. He is due back in court on September 30, and if convicted, could face up to seven years in prison.
