Brooklyn Porridge Co Pop-Up Returns To Union Street October 10

It’s starting to get a little chilly, which means our seasonal shops are beginning to turn over — and this year, a porridge-centric restaurant returns to take the place of an ice cream shop for the winter.

The second season of Brooklyn Porridge Co begins on Friday, October 10 in the Uncle Louie G’s space at 741 Union Street near 5th Avenue, and cofounders Emily Hannon and Karyn Seltzer tell us they’ll be starting the year on a auspicious date.

“To kick off fall, our October 10th opening lands on World Porridge Day — an annual tradition to raise awareness of childhood hunger around the world,” they say.

The newly renovated cafe has counter seating, where you can enjoy an expanded menu — they’ve added brown rice congee to their porridge bases (how it works is that you pick a base, and then add toppings) and have added toppings like kimchee, sunflower satay, cinnamon plantains, sweet pea pesto, and more.

They’ll also be launching an artisanal sweet and savory gluten-free product line, as well as offering community business discounts and cross-promotions, kid-friendly specials, and cooking demonstrations with guest chefs.

“We couldn’t be more excited to spread the porridge love!” they say.
