Brooklyn Kids Hit The Ice At Abe Stark Skating Rink [Photos]

Lots of little Olympians-in-training showed off their moves on the ice this morning.

For the ninth year in a row, local elected officials sponsored a free ice skating event at Abe Stark Skating Rink (1902 West 19th Street) in Coney Island. Councilman Mark Treyger, Senator Diane Savino, and Assemblywoman Pamela Harris posed for photos with aspiring Michelle Kwans and Jeremy Abbots, and member of the 60th Precinct Community Council were on hand to distribute hot cocoa and chocolate chip cookies.

Councilman Mark Treyger declared Day 1 of the two-day skating event a huge success, and shared photos of the fun times on social media.

“So many families showed up and took to the ice, and it was great to see plenty of first-times, kids and adults alike, courageously lace up the skates for the first time. And everyone certainly enjoyed the free hot chocolate and cookies!” he wrote on Facebook. “I remain committed to making sure that residents in our community consistently have fun, safe, family-friendly activities available to them as often as possible.”

Community Board 13, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, and Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams were also sponsors of the event.

For those who missed the festivities today, there will be another free skating session tomorrow, same time — 9:30am – 11:30am.
