Brooklyn Hospital Building Sale May Get Over $100 Million

Bids on Brooklyn Hospital Center’s Maynard Building are said to be as high as $115 million, according to Crain’s. Due last week, the proposals are now under review. Whichever one is chosen, the building at 240 Willoughby Street would remain as medical office space for the immediate future, until it gets converted into a residential or mixed-use complex.

As we reported last year and again last month, Brooklyn Hospital has been trying to sell the building for a couple of years now. The latest round put the 21-story, 151,290-square-foot structure on the market by Cushman & Wakefield. It currently houses offices — such as for the Geriatrics Department — and labs for the Internal Medicine Department and Vascular Services, but also offers lovely views of the East River and Manhattan skyline and, if purchased, could easily be converted into a residential or mixed-use complex.

Any proceeds from a sale would enable Brooklyn Hospital to build a new ambulatory urgent care center, as well as make renovations at its main campus.
